Grade 16 ($43,676 - $61,855) Primary Purpose of Position:
The Professional Development Specialist for Region 9 is responsible for:
working with local, regional, and statewide partners to create, deliver and promote professional development trainings for early childhood professionals; developing presentations and implementing programs that promote professional development; ensuring that in-service training is of high quality and meets the training requirements of the Division of Child Development and Early Education (DCDEE).
Also serves as a back-up to Child Care Solutions' Resource & Referral Specialist with both referrals and data entry.
Duties and
Responsibilities:
Professional Developmento Maintain familiarity with NC Child Care Requirements with regards to the training requirements for child care centers and family child care homes in order to offer professional development trainings that comply with NC Child Care Rules.

Early Childhood Scholarship and distribute applications at professional development trainings as needed.
o Create a monthly training calendar/newsletter for Iredell County that provides early childhood professionals with upcoming trainings, upcoming events, DCDEE updates, lesson plan ideas, and other useful information.
o Collaborate with local, regional, and statewide partners, including DCDEE, to meet the professional development needs of early childhood professionals.
o Develop, conduct, and arrange for trainings and presentations promoting professional development suited to a variety of audiences to include child care center staff, family child care home providers, and early childhood vocational students.
o Host evening and weekend trainings conducted by an outside trainer, remaining onsite throughout the training, and communicating with supervisor to ensure that an ICPYC employee is onsite when unable to host.
o Collaborate with regional partners to ensure that CCR&R Core Performance Requirements related to professional development trainings and CEU trainings are met.
o Ensure professional development trainings include relevant, current, and research-based information, including best practices in adult learning, and that CEU trainings meet the International Association for Continuing Education and Training's (IACET) standards or are issued by a Local Education Agency or an accredited institution of higher education.
o Update Training Room Outlook calendar(s) to reflect trainings and events.
o Maintain professional development documentation within an online database.
o Ensure that trainers abide by training room procedures and that training rooms are clean, organized, and well-stocked.
o Communicate regularly with early childhood professionals by email, mass phone calls, and/or text messages, to share upcoming professional development trainings and events.
o Communicate with child care programs in Iredell County about job vacancies and maintain the Job Board on the ICPYC website.
In-Service Trainingo Maintain familiarity with NC Child Care Requirements with regards to pre-service and in-service training requirements for staff in licensed child care programs and with DCDEE requirements for exempt training providers.
o Coordinate the schedule of all trainings designed to help participants meet approved in-service training requirements for licensed child care programs.
o Coordinate and host an annual regional training conference and/or college fair for child care teachers, family child care home providers and community members.
o Submit an Annual Training Plan to DCDEE as well as a Training Addendum as needed to include any changes to the initial annual plan.
o Align trainings that pertain to the teacher's role in the child care setting using the North Carolina Foundations for Early Learning and Development (NC FELD) Alignment DomainWorksheet.
o Screen and select training facilitators and communicate with trainers regarding training policies and guidelines, workshop evaluations, and completion of paperwork.
o Publish training opportunities monthly and as needed for special mailings or email blast.
o Provide trainers with materials required to document training including attendance rosters, master evaluation forms, and master training certificates.
o Organize and maintain a system for participant registration and training documentation; assure consistent maintenance of online registration database; and maintain post-training records as required by DCDEE.
o Verify and maintain records related to fee credits and refunds; determine whether a credit or refund for cancellation of registration is due under published training guidelines; authorize and submit requests for refunds of training fees to the Finance Director for processing.
Monitoring/Reportingo Create and maintain training surveys to ensure CCR&R Core Service Outcomes are met.
o Collect and analyze data from learning event reviews to assess training needs, training quality, and training effectiveness, including pre/post survey results.
o Conduct an annual monitoring observation of each trainer or assign the monitoring observation to ICPYC staff members.
Collect, collate, and analyze data regarding training participants and children served in accordance with required annual and quarterly report formats.
o Prepare and submit all required annual, interim, and quarterly reports as required by NCPC, ICPYC, DCDEE and other requesting agencies.
Community Serviceso Represent the Iredell County Partnership for Young Children accurately and professionally in the community.
o Provide services as a speaker or presenter to local, regional, and state early childhood professional organizations or civic organizations on the topic of early childhood professional development.
Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily and meet the requirements listed below.
o Must pass a criminal background check.
o Must have reliable transportation and valid driver's license.
o Occasional evening, early morning, and/or weekend hours required.
o Local travel is required.
Education and/or
Experience:
Bachelor's degree in a field related to early childhood education, child development, or human services from an accredited college or university, plus or including at least 18 birth to five focused semester hours, and four (4) or more years' related experience as an early childhood professional required.
Must currently hold a minimum of a level 11 NC Early Care and Education Professional Certification (EEC) with PD Endorsements or be willing to obtain within a year of employment.
Equivalent combination of education and experience considered.
